After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.
Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.
1) The title: I have heard a lot of people talk about how bad this title is, but I don't think so. I don't think the title is bad...on itself. I just think it didn't have a strong relationship with the book. They made reference to it like 2 times in the entire book and by the time I got to those, it was more than halfway through the book.
2) The pacing: It was a really slow book, especially, because there was a lot of talking and not much action. There was a few exciting or really entertaining bits, were there wasn't so much talking and a little more of acting, but for most of the time the main characters were interviewing/ interrogating people.
3) The writting: J.K. Rowling did it again; the writting in this book was incredible, She is definitely a very talented writer. This book had enough details that I could imagine everything, but not so many details as to drag the story.
4) The main characters: The thing I loved the most from this book and the reason I will keep reading this series, is because Strike and Robin and the relationship between them. They were both clever and sharp characters, each with their own flaws, that made them really complex characters. Strike had the expirience that Robin didin't, and Robin had some social skills that Strike was missing, and that was what made them a great team. also, I really enjoy how their relationship developed to a point where it was still a professional relationship. but they were starting to become friends.
5) The Plot: It was a bit predictable, because the motive was really easy to figure out. Nonetheless, a lot of things happened in this book that I wasn't expecting and the fact that was a bit predictable didn't take away from the story. Also, something that bother me was that there were some storylines for secundary characters that weren't tied up at the end; it seemed that they were only there to make them look suspicious, but then they had nothing to do with the final reveal, so they were left in the air.
